plan B is a charity that makes art - mainly dance thetare and it is one of Scotland’s leading dance companies. We love working with people - the greater the diversity the better - and we aim to inspire and lead and support people to achieve their full potential. We're based in Ross-shire, in the Scottish Highlands - and we quite like being both remote and at the centre of things. And we've been around for quite some time. Since its inception in 1990, the collaborative process has been fundamental to what we do at plan B and this, in turn, has led us to adopt attitudes to our work and the people and communities with whom we work, which is both open and inclusive but which also challenges assumptions regarding existing orthodoxies. We view our productions as milestones in a process that develops the company, relationships with promoters, audiences, participants in our classes and dance theatre as an artform. We are also extremely interested in working with new people and learnings new approaches. Though much of this work is developed at our unique rural base, plan B is committed to presenting the work and making connections locally, nationally and internationally. Led throughout by award winning choreographer, Frank McConnell, the company has always been committed to a bold and imaginative style which is innovative in its devising and accessible in its delivery. We run classes in modern dance, and creative dance in schools as well as offering free company class and workshops for dance artists living in the region. We also lead traditional dance sessions for the communities in Ardross and Conon Bridge, classes for mature dancers, and offer paid residency opportunities for visiting artists.
plan B regularly collaborates with musicians, designers and writers to create highly acclaimed and memorable productions. Currently touring is Citizen, created by Chrissie Ardill, which has received two 4**** reviews while previous touring shows include And Now..., and The Shoogle Project (featuring Shooglenifty), presented at venues, both big and small, throughout the HIghlands, Islands and Mainlands of the UK. Most of our work is created
The Shed, located on the Evanton Industrial Estate, is an ex-RAF nissen hut that has been converted into a unique space housing multi-functional, multi-media dance/rehearsal studios and production offices.
