plan B is one of Scotland’s leading dance companies, based in Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands.

Established in 1989 by Frank McConnell and Caroline Docherty, plan B explores new ways of creating and presenting dance and theatre, utilising the inherent capacity of the arts for transforming peoples’ lives and galvanising communities. Though much of this work is developed at our unique rural base, plan B is committed to presenting the work and making connections locally, nationally and internationally.

Led throughout by award winning choreographer, Frank McConnell, the company has always been committed to a bold and imaginative style which is innovative in its devising and accessible in its delivery. plan B’s vision is to be an invaluable source of creativity in the Highlands through creating, producing and presenting original dance performances and by promoting participation in dance at all levels and for all abilities.

Having successfully secured regular funding status for 2015-2018 from Creative Scotland in April 2015, plan B embarked on a new and significant chapter in its creative life - establishing a permanent ensemble of four talented dance artists.  Glen, Katie, Kirsty and Joanne work with the company and Artistic Director to create compelling dance theatre of great originality, high production values and artistic excellence.

For Artistic Director and award winning choreographer, Frank McConnell, this is an exciting start to a new era that will see plan B bring people and skills to the area as well as providing opportunities for young people to pursue a career in dance and stay in the Highlands.

plan B regularly collaborate with musicians, designers and writers to create highly acclaimed and memorable productions. Currently touring is And Now... which has received two 4**** reviews while previous touring shows include A Wee Home From Home (collaboration with Michael Mara) and The Shoogle Project (featuring Shooglenifty). More recent productions include Shuffle, an ongoing series of live events showcasing work by local artists, at The Shed.

The Shed, located on the Evanton Industrial Estate, is an ex-army nissen hut that has been converted into a unique space housing multi-functional, multi-media dance/rehearsal studios and production offices.
