Chairman - David Newman
David has been a member of the planB board for six years now and currently holds the position of Vice Chair. However, his day job centres around managing Plexus Media, a web software development company based in Cromarty near Inverness. Outside of work, he has numerous interests many of which revolve around both supporting, and being involved the arts and in recent years he’s sat on various arts based organisation boards. However, in his spare time he enjoys writing short stories and plays. He’s also an avid reader, enjoys drawing, photography, keeping fit, swimming and yoga, as well as many other activities. Probably too many!
Emer's background is in local government arts development and education. Her work has taken her all over the world with longer periods in Ireland, Japan and Italy. In Scotland she has managed the Gaelic group, Cliar and has also managed the Arts and Business Highland office. She is a partner in Creative Services Scotland, a leading national consultancy which focuses on the cultural and creative industries.
She is professional artist working mainly in watercolour.
Victoria joined the plan B Board in 2013. Originally trained as a mathematician, her background is in strategic and corporate planning in the UK higher education sector. She previously held positions at the University of Edinburgh, London School of Economics, Scottish Funding Council and the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). In 2008, she returned to higher education as a student and completed a BA in Fine Art at the Moray School of Art, UHI. She now works from her Inverness studio whilst continuing with ad-hoc project work at the UHI. Victoria has recently started an MA in Art History with the Open University. She is also an active member of Inverness Gaelic Choir and enjoys dancing, photography and running.
Anna studied at Stirling University and Trinity College Dublin, graduating with a BA Hons in English. She worked on shows at the Crucible theatre (Sheffield) and London before joining the Lindsay Kemp dance theatre company with whom she toured internationally for many years. Anna returned to Scotland and brought up a family whilst working as a freelance writer and on the editorial team for a Nairn based publishing company. She was co-artistic director of theatre company Tartan Chameleon and then UK Tour Manager for physical music theatre company TNT/ADG Europe for 5 years. Anna is particularly keen on artistic collaborations and enjoys taking art into the community and performing with artists, poets, dancers and musicians. She is delighted to be a supportive member of the board for plan B.
Gill is a solicitor, specialising in employment law and discrimination. She is Managing Director of employment law and HR consultancy, Buchanan Shaw Consulting Ltd, which assists businsesses, organisations and individual resolve issues in the workplace. She also lectures part-time at Inverness College, delivering law modules, and is programme leader for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's HR Certificate and Diploma courses. Gill is President of Inverness Toastmasters, a local club which creates a supportive environment for members to improve public speaking and leadership skills. She chairs the Advisory Group Committee of the Women @ Work Project and sits on the committee of the CIPD's North Highland & Islands Group. Gill joined the Board of plan B in May 2015.
Peter Whiteley has now retired after many years working as a high school teacher. He has a unique reputation and is highly regarded as a teacher of creative writing and at literary events. Peter has tutored a creative writing class at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness for the last eight years. A prolific playwright, his plays have been produced by professional companies as well as community groups and schools.
His poetry has been published in numerous collections and periodicals.
