plan B is looking for a remarkable individual who can inspire and share their passion for art. Working closely with the Artistic Director you will ensure this vibrant company continues to create exciting projects which are engaging, thought-provoking and have great production values.  You’ll also play a major role in ensuring that all our participants and freelance staff are supported to realise their full potential and that they will all be treated equally and fairly.  The Associate Artist will work with the General Manager to make sure than plan B operates efficiently, within budget, and meets its obligations to funders, audiences, and our company members. It’s a crucial and, we believe, a hugely exciting role.

We are looking for someone with a proven track record in professional dance with choreographic experience.  A dynamic, experienced self-starter who shares our commitment to developing creativity in individuals and communities through the power of dance.

The Associate Artist is an important representative and ambassador for the company, helping and assisting the Artistic Director to implement the company’s vision and objectives.  The Associate Artists principal responsibilities will be to:

  • to plan and produce an annual programme of work and its delivery, in association with the Artistic Director and General Manager, (including creative research, classes, workshops, performances and events) in line with plan B’s vision and plans
  • to provide a professional high quality artistic leadership on plan B projects
  • to represent the company in our relationships with our funders, our partners, the arts community in the Highlands and nationally, the media and with our participants

The post is based at plan B’s base in the Scottish Highlands. The need to work on a flexible basis is essential and this will likely include working outwith normal office hours such as weekend and evening work.

Interviews will take place in Ross-shire on Friday 9th June and will involve presentation, group discussion, teaching part of a workshop, and one-to-one interviews.

03 May 2017Pitcalzean Course 2017

The long-awaited return of Step Dancing workshops with Frank McConnell

at the beautiful Pitcalzean House, Nigg, Easter Ross.

1st - 4th June  2017

The course is aimed at step-dancers and step-dancer/fiddlers at the upper-intermediate advanced level.

The workshop will focus on improvising and learning preferences for individual expression; one-to one surgeries; as well as picking up steps visually, musically and non-verbally. There will also be sessions for fiddlers to work with the brilliant Anna Massie to learn some new dance tunes.

A massage/relaxation session will end each afternoon.  Workshops will take place each morning, afternoon and evening, with evenings having a more social element.  If you live locally there is the option to attend workshops only.


Accommodation and workshops will take place at Pitcalzean House set in beautiful gardens and overlooking the Cromarty Firth. There is a separate barn, perfect for step dancing. Pitcalzean is approx. 45 minutes drive north of Inverness and your own transport will be required as there are very limited public transport options once you get to Inverness.
